QUICK TIP: Product Weight and Date Listed

By now, you have probably started working on your website and are starting to list products. You’ve probably noticed some areas of the Product Listing Page that you don’t need.

For example, since I sell vintage items, I don’t use SKUs or Barcodes for my products. Therefore, I use those text boxes on a product listing page for other uses. 😉

In the SKU box, I enter the date I added the item to my store and in the Barcode text box, I enter the actual weight of an item (not packaged weight).

Personally, I find these “notes” helpful.

  • If a customer ever asks me how much something weighs, I have that information right there in the product listing, so can quickly get that information for my customer.
  • I also like having the date I added the product available. This helps me keep track of how long something has been listed, and I can use that information to decide if I want to run a sale on that item.

Sort Products By Date Listed:

If you enter the listing date into the SKU box, you can sort your products by the date they were listed in the Inventory list. Here’s how:

  1. From your Shopify Dashboard, click on Products
  2. Click on Inventory
  3. Click the SKU heading to sort either in ascending order or descending order (each click changes the sort order)

Additional Notes:

  • What you enter into the SKU and/or Barcode text box does NOT show up on the product page on your website. It ONLY appears to you when you view the product listing page.
  • While you might not want to use these two text fields the same way I am using them, you can certainly use them for your own internal notes.

I hope you can use these tips!
