FREE TOOL: How to Use Pocket With Your Ecommerce Store

When you own and run an ecommerce store, it seems like you’re always finding new articles about SEO, social media marketing, content marketing, and a ton of other topics that help you run your business. It can be hard to keep track of all that information!

Not only can it be overwhelming to keep track of the articles, you might not have time at that moment to read them, so if you don’t save them, they’re harder to find again when you need them.

That’s why you need Pocket.

Pocket is a free tool that allows you to save articles and videos, share them, and read them later – and so much more.

Pocket is a browser extension, as well as an app for your smartphone – so you can use it on your computer, phone, tablet, or other mobile device.

Using Pocket

When you find an article to save, just click the “Save to Pocket” tool within your browser, and that article is saved for you to go back to it at any time, easily.

Pocket syncs between your devices, so you can take your saved articles with you and then enjoy them away from your computer – like when you’re waiting for an appointment.

With Pocket, you can easily share articles, too – there are lots of integrations for sharing.

How To Use Pocket:

  1. Go to Pocket and create an account
You can sign up with your Google account or with your email account.
  2. Add the Pocket tool to your internet browser and download the Pocket app to use Pocket on your mobile device
  3. When you see an article you’d like to save, click the Pocket icon in your browser
You’ll see a small pop-up balloon telling you the article has been saved.
  4. To open Pocket to read your articles, on the computer, click the Pocket icon in your browser with your right-mouse button and choose Open Your Pocket List
  5. If you want, you can also “tag” your saved articles to help you find them later by tag
By tagging articles, you can organize them to make it easier to find them later.

Recommended Articles and Explore Topics

Pocket not only saves your articles, there is also a “Recommended” tab for you with similar articles, and an “Explore” tab to find even more articles that you might be interested in.

Recommended Articles

Pocket learns from you and the types of articles you save and interact with. It then displays recommended articles for you. You can save the recommended articles to your Pocket List right from that Recommended page – just click the Save to Pocket icon.

Helpful Tips…

  • No Clutter – One of the things I really like about Pocket is when you go back and read a saved article, Pocket strips out all the ads and other flashy chaos that might be on a website, leaving just the content! My tip? When you land on a website article that’s filled with ads and other clutter, save the article to Pocket, then read it on Pocket.
  • Integration – Pocket integrates very well with many other applications! For example, if you integrate Pocket with Slack, you can save Slack posts directly to Pocket from within Slack itself. You can also use IFTTT to automate your Pocket lists. A tip for using IFTTT with Pocket is to set up an IFTTT applet that saves all articles from your favorite blog as soon as they are published – that way, you’ll never miss a post.
  • Listen to Your Articles – If you are using Pocket on your smartphone, you can actually have Pocket read the articles to you! This is a great feature to have when you are busy doing another task, as you can listen to the article at the same time. Just click the Pocket ellipse tool and choose Listen. You can read more about how to listen to the articles at the Pocket Help page in the link above.
  • For Your Business – Whenever I find an article or video tutorial that has anything to do with ecommerce and running my business, I save it to Pocket and immediately tag the article with a keyword related to that topic. For example, any article related to search engine optimization is tagged with “SEO”. I keep the articles within Pocket and read them either when I have time, or when that article is pertinent to something I’m working on at that time with my store. Once I read and article, I mark it as “Archived” in Pocket. I can still go back to those articles if I need to, but they no longer show up in my main Pocket Home List.
