QUICK TIP: Collection Page Descriptions

What’s your description like on your collection pages?

Is it one short sentence describing your collection?

Is it a full paragraph?

What?!?! You don’t even have a description?

Well… here’s a quick tip for you.

TIP:  Google prefers to see 300+ words on descriptive pages.

What content could you add to your collection pages that describes your collection, provides your customers with more information, and that would help you rank better in Google searches? Think about it – it really could make a huge difference in how you rank in searches!

  • While longer descriptions are better for SEO (search engine optimization), don’t feel obligated to create 300+ word descriptions for your collection pages. If you have around 100 words, that will certainly be better than just a few words, or even no text at all.
  • Write your descriptions in a way that uses the important keywords defining what that collection is all about. Think like a customer and use words a customer would use to find your collection.

  • Remember that changes you make to your website don’t show up in internet search results immediately. About a month after making your changes to your collection descriptions, do a search for that collection and see if Google (or other search engines) has indexed your collection pages yet.
