BOOK RECOMMENDATION: Start With Why

“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something we love is called passion.” ~Simon Sinek

I couldn’t agree more with this statement! How about you?

I believe when we, as small business owners, know WHY we are in business, our customers will understand us better and our business will be better off because of that.

The book “Start With Why – How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action” by Simon Sinek is a great tool to help you define your “why”. I highly recommend this book!

As Simon Sinek says, any person or organization can explain what they do; some can explain how they are different or better; but very few can clearly articulate why. WHY is the thing that inspires us, and inspires those around us.

At the time I was about to launch my website, ThirdShift Vintage, I received a copy of Simon’s book from Etsy Admin, through the Etsy Fellowship – a group of captains and leaders of other Etsy shops that I am a member of. This book was intended to be helpful for us as leaders when working with our teams. While I do feel the book helped define our teams, it also inspired me to really think about why I love doing what I do. I already knew my why, but I had never put my why into words before. With the help of this book, I was able to write my About pages for my Shopify store and for this website, and I feel it helped me brand myself and my shop better as well. And now I wanted to share this book with you. 🙂
